Fifty years ago Middlebury began the formal process of acquiring art for its permanent collection. This exhibit marks that anniversary by bringing together one work from each year. Included are paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, and photography, from antiquity to the present and from diverse cultures around the world. Museum hours>>

In this musical adapted from Green Day’s 2004 concept album of the same name, working-class characters—hailing from the suburbs to the city to the Middle East—seek redemption in a world filled with frustration. Musical direction by Clint Bierman and featuring the local Vermont rock band the Grift. A perennial Middlebury favorite, cellist Sophie Shao has been praised by the World News for her “sensitive, stylistic playing, with great finesse, emotion, and gorgeous tone,” and has amassed an extensive collection of talented musical friends. She returns for her 11th consecutive season with an exciting new ensemble including violinists Zachary DePue and Arnaud Sussmann, violist Matthew Lipman, and Nathan Farrington on double bass. Together they will perform selected duets by Mozart, Penderecki, and Meyer; plus rarely heard double-bass quintets including Dvořák’s Op. 77, and Offenbach’s Divertimento über Schweizer Lieder in celebration of Offenbach’s 200th birthday.  A Performing Arts Series and Nelson Series event.
