Paul Nelson tells us that the Artemis Quartet may be the finest young quartet in the world. As evidence, he lists the major-league cities and venues they visit in the United States on their current tour: Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York (Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall), Philadelphia, Washingon D.C., and of course, Middlebury. The Cincinnati Enquirer wrote, "The Quartet's playing is polished and precise but at the same time spontaneous, fresh and explosive as though the music is being improvised on the spot…it's the combination of Russian and German genes that makes for such a winning formula." The Quartet's program for Middlebury consists of works by Felix Mendelssohn, Bela Bartók, and Robert Schumann.
