Gerald Elias, violin Gerald Elias, the father of Kate Elias '06, presents a recital of 20th-century music for violin at 8:00 p.m. on February 19 in the Center for the Arts Concert Hall. The program includes works for violin and piano by Elias, other works for the same two instruments by David Crumb, and works for violin and electronics by Morris Rosenzweig and Peter Hamlin '73 of the Middlebury College Department of Music. Cynthia Huard is the pianist. The concert is free and open to the public.

 

Elias is a violinist, teacher, and composer. He has been associate concertmaster of the Utah Symphony since 1988, first violinist of the Abramyan String Quartet, and adjunct professor of music at the University of Utah. As a soloist he has performed with symphony orchestras from the Sydney Symphony to the Boston Pops, and has performed chamber music and solo recitals in the United States, Italy, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. In addition to his recital, Elias plans to work with student performers and composers during his residency on campus.
