Axel Mendrok is an opera agent at the ZAV (Germany's Federal Artist Agency) in Cologne where he co-directs the agency's division for vocal soloists. A former opera singer, Mr. Mendrok was the recipient of the Bayreuth fellowship as a sophomore at the Hochschule Detmold. Throughout his career as a tenor, Mr. Mendrok sang at some of Europe's most prestigious opera houses, among them Amsterdam, Paris' Châtelet and Opéra Garnier, the Komische Oper Berlin, Oper Köln, the Staatsoper Hannover as well as in Milano, Jerusalem, Russia and Turkey. Between 1989 and 1998, he was a permanent guest at the opera Brussels, and he was an ensemble member of the operas in Bonn and Wiesbaden until he left the stage for his work as an agent in 2007. He has collaborated with Middlebury's "German for Singers and Vocal Coaches" since 2009.
