Master of Arts in Applied Languages in German
Acquire specific skills, knowledge, and experience applicable to an individual career path with our one-year MA in Applied Languages.
Students spend a summer in Vermont at the German School followed by an Academic Year in Mainz or Potsdam, Germany. Students complete a hands-on internship in Germany combined with academic coursework in traditional subjects, interdisciplinary areas, and pre-professional disciplines. Students can only specialize in language teaching.
Summer in Vermont (6-week session)
- Three courses in language and professional preparation
Fall Semester in Germany
- One Culture and Composition course
- Three courses in teaching German as a foreign language (pedagogy)
- One elective course in a related subject (literature, history, culture, etc.)
Spring Semester in Germany
- One internship for credit (teaching internship 18 hrs/week; 12 page applied research paper)
- Two courses in teaching German as a foreign language (pedagogy)
- One elective course in a related subject (literature, history, culture, etc.)
