As Middlebury and the entire country take measures to deal with the coronavirus epidemic, we are aware that our students, prospective students, and wider community have questions about Language Schools programs for summer 2020.
We are dealing with extraordinary circumstances, at the Institute—and the world—and how the staff have taken the lead to rally us as a community, showing remarkable resourcefulness, positivity, and professionalism, is deeply heartening.
Thank you for your understanding and flexibility as we all work through the questions regarding students’ ability to work remotely while off campus during their time away.
I am writing to follow up on the email I sent to all Schools Abroad students yesterday. When the message was sent, we were waiting to make a decision about the continuation of the Schools Abroad in Latin America (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay) and Cameroon.
We know how much is going on and that you’re all in an unexpected and unprecedented state of transition. Campus has the vibe of move-out week right now, though without the joy of tradition that we expect at springtime here.
Given all the uncertainty and anxiety surrounding the COVID-19 virus, we want to reach out to you—to let you know that we are monitoring the situation daily and responding proactively, so to help minimize the virus’s spread and impact within our community and across the country.
Sincere thanks, everyone, for attending our open office hours and emailing us the important questions you have about the evolving COVID-19 situation. Please continue to check the FAQ page, which we are constantly updating.
I write to you with the disappointing, yet not unexpected news that, effective immediately, the Schools Abroad in France, Germany, Spain, Russia, Morocco, Japan, Jordan, and India are suspending in-country activity. We are still in discussion about plans for the Schools in Latin America and Cameroon.
