October 16, 2020

Middlebury Language Schools had a successful summer, and look forward to opening our application for Summer 2021. We welcomed more than 1,100 students who participated in the first-ever (since our founding in 1915!) online program due to the global pandemic.

The School of Abenaki will return this upcoming summer and was recently featured with Director Jesse Bruchac in an article.

Students signed a modified Language Pledge in Summer 2020, agreeing to speak, read, write, and listen only in the target language for as much time as possible. Students continued the tradition of co-curricular activities with virtual events including reality tours of Florence and Tokyo, Portuguese samba dances, and German cooking and baking.

Associate Dean Per Urlaub reflected on the technology innovations that the Language Schools used last summer. Our faculty and staff used a variety of new virtual ideas to connect students with alumni and outside guests as well as change the structure of the program.

We plan to run our programs in Vermont this summer, and will continue to review all relevant health information and recommendations. Our application for all 12 languages including both immersion programs and graduate programs will open Monday, November 2

As always, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

All the best,

Middlebury Language Schools
