Dr. Dris Soulaimani is Associate Professor of Arabic and Linguistics at San Diego State University, where he also directs the Arabic program and serves as core faculty at the Center for Islamic and Arabic Studies. Dr. Soulaimani received his Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from UCLA and his M.A. in Linguistics from Wayne State University. Dr. Soulaimani has extensive experience, teaching at multiple institutions, including Brown University, the University of Michigan and UCLA, where he coordinated the Arabic program and received the UCLA Distinguished Teaching Award. Dr. Soulaimani’s research interests center on the fields of sociolinguistics and discourse analysis, with particular attention to the language situation in the Maghrib, including issues of language, script and identity. Currently, he is Book Review Editor for Al-Arabiyya Journal.
