Luis Gonçalves holds a Ph.D. in Romance Languages ​​- Portuguese, with a Minor in Communication Studies and Certification in Cultural Studies, and a Masters in Luso-Brazilian Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Professor Gonçalves teaches Portuguese and Spanish at Princeton University and his research focuses on Lusophone Cultures and Civilizations and their transatlantic dynamics, Foreign Language Methodology and Second Language Acquisition. Dr. Gonçalves is the president of the AOTP – American Organization of Teachers of Portuguese, president of the NCOLCTL – National Council for Less Commonly Taught Languages, and the executive director of the annual conference EMEP – Encontro Mundial sobre o Ensino de Português. He is on the Editorial Board of the Portuguese Language Journal and other international journals.
