The Open Door Clinic provides patient-centered, culturally sensitive medical care, dental care, and insurance navigation services free of charge to uninsured or underinsured residents of the Addison County community in Vermont. Porter Hospital UVM Clinical Shadowing Program - CURRENTLY ON PAUSE

The Middlebury College and Porter Hospital UVM Clinical Shadowing Program is designed to create access and opportunity for students from communities that have been historically underrepresented in medicine (BIPOC students, LGBTQ students, first-generation students, and students with disabilities). Applicants need to have already completed at least two semesters of college. Students accepted to participate in this program will be required to submit proof of immunization including COVID-19 vaccination, receive a seasonal flu vaccine, attend an orientation program, and complete HIPAA training. Applicants must be full-time students in good academic standing. E-mail questions to Hannah Benz at hbenz@middlebury.edu.

Porter Hospital UVM Volunteering Program

Volunteers support Porter’s staff, patients and families. They have many opportunities (year round!) and will work with your schedule. Interested students should complete a Porter Medical Center Volunteer application or send an e-mail to PMC Volunteer e-mail.

Pathways in Pediatric Education (PATH) Program

A Department of Pediatrics at UVM’s Children’s Hospital and the Larner College of Medicine program that aims to provide longitudinal clinical opportunities in pediatrics to pre-medical students who are under-represented in medicine. Participants should be current juniors or seniors, and will spend approximately one half-day shadowing (clinic, hospital ward, etc.) per month over the course of the academic year. Transportation is the responsibility of the participant. Interested students will be asked to complete an interest form and submit a resume by June 1st. Read more about the program here.

Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP)

SHPEP is a FREE six-week transformative summer experience for college freshman and sophomore students interested in the health professions. The program offers opportunities to explore health careers, including dentistry, medicine, nursing, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, and public health. The application opens November 1st. - Pre-Health Society
- Fostering a sense of community, the Pre-Health Society hosts events include alumni panels, guest speakers, dissections, and biweekly peer mentorship and mindfulness hours. It prides itself on serving as a resource not only for pre-med students, but also for individuals who are pre-vet, pre-dental, or considering other health professions. - Women in Health Sciences
- A pre-professional organization, Women in Health Sciences supports female identifying students who are interested in pursuing healthcare careers, such as medicine, dentistry, nursing, global health, research, and administration. Through guest speakers, peer mentoring, and discussions on workplace challenges women face, they hope to equip fellow Middlebury students with tools and resources to succeed at Midd and beyond.
