Summer Research
Each summer at Middlebury, over 130 students engage in on-campus and remote research with a faculty mentor on topics ranging from biochemistry to philosophy.
If you are interested in working as a student research assistant (SRA) on campus, reach out to your faculty late in the fall semester or J-term to understand opportunities. Faculty are responsible for identifying and hiring their SRAs, and usually make decisions before April 1.
Students can also pursue research with faculty and researchers at other institutions, typically through Research Experiences for Undergraduate (REU) and Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) programs. Students can contact faculty at other institutions directly about summer research opportunities. For unpaid or low-paid external research opportunities, students can apply for summer funding through the Center for Careers and Internships.
