Academic Year in Madrid

The Middlebury School in Spain offers students the possibility to earn their MA degree in one year.  Classes in the literature, linguistics, teaching methodology and culture tracks are taught by Middlebury School in Spain faculty at the School’s headquarters at the Sede Prim.  The curriculum includes courses with both Spanish and Latin American foci.

Course offerings are complemented with graduate level classes in Hispanic Studies taken at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, one of the premier research universities in Spain.  It’s campus is located less than 30 minutes by train from the Sede Prim.

Madrid students take advantage of the wide array of cultural activities and events in the city. The Sede Prim is located within walking distance of the National Library, the Prado, Reina Sofía and Thyssen museums and some of the most prominent theaters in the country.  Middlebury courses make the most of this proximity and incorporate attendance to theater plays or museum visits in their classes.  Also, students receive partial refunds from the School in Spain so that they can attend some cultural activities according to their specific interests.

Spending one year immersed in the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures allows students to gain an advanced oral and written proficiency that opens various professional options after graduation.  School in Spain alumni have careers in fields as varied as teaching and academic administration, social work, and business, and many continue to pursue Ph.D’s in the fields of literature and linguistics.
