Software on Public Computers
All public computers on campus have a core set of applications on them and offer the ability to type in any of the languages taught at Middlebury and MIIS (http://go.middlebury.edu/ls). This set of software differs for PC and Mac machines. To view the list of core software that is publicly available, click on the appropriate machine type below. If you don’t see the program you want to use, scroll down to the table to see whether it is available only in specific public computer labs.
Core PC Software Applications
The following software applications are installed on all Middlebury College ITS-imaged Windows public lab/classroom physical computers as part of our standard computer image. (Note: There may exist “specialty” labs that do not contain all of these applications but that is usually by request or design, e.g., a specialized faculty research computer lab.)
- Adobe: Acrobat Reader
- Adobe: Illustrator, InDesign, PhotoShop, Acrobat
- Adobe licensing allows installs only on physical machines, so these programs are not available in our Virtual lab environment.
- Audacity
- Firefox
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- PDF Creator
- Sophos Antivirus
- VLC Media Player
Core Mac Software Applications
The following software applications are installed on all Middlebury College ITS-imaged Mac public lab/classroom physical computers as part of our standard computer image:
- Adobe: Acrobat
- Adobe: full Creative Cloud (CC) suite (including Animate, Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, and Audition)
- Apple: iMovie, iTunes, GarageBand, Photos, and QuickTime
- Apple: Pages, Numbers, and Keynote
- Audacity
- Google Earth Pro
- Handbrake
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Sophos Antivirus
- VLC Media Player
Specialized Software
Some of the public computers on campus have special software that may be needed for coursework or other uses. The table below lists the additional applications that are available for public use, as well as where they can be found.
