Anja is the Associate Director of the German School.

Anja Wieden is Associate Professor at Oakland University in Michigan. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her dissertation was entitled “Female Experiences of Rape and Hunger in Postwar German Literature 1945-1960.” At Oakland University, she serves as German Section Head and Study Abroad Program Director for Oldenburg and Münster. The majority of her publications focus on narrations of sexual abuse. Recently, she has shifted her research interests on contemporary German politics, the refugee crisis, and Islam. In that context, she was able to interview atheist refugees in Germany and Austria in order to learn more about the difficulties and obstacles these marginalized asylum seekers face in Europe. https://oakland.edu/languages/faculty-bios/german-faculty/wieden
