Concerto Competition  - 2013

Results:

The auditions were held on Monday, January 28th 2013, in the Concert Hall of the Mahaney Center for the arts.

The winner is Zitong Jia, who played Scaramouche, by Darius Milhaud, on the saxophone.

The field was very strong, and discussions continued for quite a long time. Eventually the decision of the judges was unanimous.

Judges were David Neiweem, member of the University of Vermont Music Department faculty, vocalist and choral director; and Hilary Hatch, violinist and violist with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra.

The Alan and Joyce Beucher Concerto Competition was established by a gift from Susan Beucher Cady and George L. Cady '72, P '08, '11, in honor of Susan's parents. Alan and Joyce Beucher both had careers in music: Alan was the Master of Ceremonies for Radio City Music Hall where he sang and introduced the Rockettes for more than 20,000 performances; and Joyce taught elementary school music and performed choral works on Long Island.
