The Middlebury-Monterey Lecture Series was established for Middlebury College and the Middlebury Institute for International Studies at Monterey (MIIS) to promote shared expertise and education through the exchange of faculty speakers as the two institutions deepen their integration.
The exchange of faculty visitors between Middlebury and MIIS brings together the strengths of the liberal arts education with the applied knowledge and professional skills of a graduate school.
Ideally, we hope the lecture series will allow us to:
- Share expertise between institutions
- Build relationships among individuals
- Open doors to collaborations
- Create opportunities for students
Far more than a traditional lecture series, with expect that each visitor not only give a lecture but also spend two days on the other school's campus, getting engaged in many ways: presenting public forums, presenting guest lectures in classes; holding meetings with faculty and administrators about possible future connections; holding a career conversation for students interested in the international realm; and generally introducing us to Middlebury or to MIIS through a unique lens.
During each academic year, the series will feature two MIIS visitors at Middlebury and two from Middlebury at MIIS.
