Zoom Phone introduces many technical improvements over our legacy telephone system and allows Middlebury to consolidate our collaboration strategy to a single vendor for both voice and video.

Q How do the contacts work in Zoom Phone?
As soon as a user receives a license for Zoom Phone, they will be able to search through the Middlebury Zoom account and dial anyone who currently has a number listed on their Zoom profile. This includes the following scenarios:
- A Middlebury Zoom Phone user with an assigned phone number.
- A Middlebury faculty, staff or student who has added a phone number to their Zoom profile in the Zoom web portal. This information can be updated any time by signing into https://go.middlebury.edu/zoom/ and editing profile information.
Q Why is Zoom asking me to enable location services?
Middlebury requires users to enable location services so that the Zoom software can report physical location in case of a 911 call. This information is passed directly to the public safety answering point. Location information is not used for other purposes.
Reporting a dispatch-able location to a public safety answering point is a federal requirement and is therefore required on Middlebury owned devices. Middlebury cannot allow location services by default, so this setting must be changed by the end user. For more information on Raybaum’s act, please see 911.gov’s website.
Q Why is Zoom asking me to enter a personal location?
Middlebury uses Zoom’s nomadic 911 functionality to identify location when on one of the Middlebury campuses. When a user is in a undefined location (e.g. working from home or a coffee shop), Zoom prompts them to enter a dispatch-able location. This information is stored and associated with that network. If a new network is detected, the user will be prompted to enter a new address.
Q Can I keep my Middlebury number when we move to Zoom Phone?
Yes! All active numbers will be ported over to Zoom Phone.
Q Do I have to install another application to use Zoom Phone on my computer?
No. Once Middlebury provides you with a Zoom Phone license, a new icon will appear in the existing Zoom application which will allow you to make and receive calls on behalf of Middlebury.
Q How do I reset my voicemail PIN to check messages?
All voice messages are delivered via email and can also be accessed via the Zoom app or by signing into https://go.middlebury.edu/zoom/
Q Can I use Zoom Phone on my personal smart phone?
Yes! The Zoom mobile app can be installed via the iOS or Android store.
Q Am I required to install Zoom Phone on my personal smart phone?
No, using Zoom Phone on your personal smart phone is an available convenience for employees who see value in doing so.
