SRA Pay, Housing, and Dining
Details for 2026 will be updated in early 2026. Please consult the 2025 dates for general timelines.
Pay
For Summer 2025, the student pay rate is $586 for a 40-hour week or $14.65 per hour, with a maximum pay of $5860. The summer 2026 pay rate will be updated in early 2026.
SRAs are generally paid through payroll according to Middlebury’s bi-weekly pay calendar and submit timesheets for faculty approval. Faculty and students must track their hours to avoid overtime payments. URO awards do not include overtime payments; it is the mentor’s responsibility to identify a funding source for any overage.
For students working outside of the US or with special circumstances, students will be paid via stipend. Students receiving stipends must be listed as a supplier in Oracle. Follow these instructions if you are not already a supplier.
Campus Housing
Students must work 30 hours per week to be eligible for campus housing. Students working only 20 hours per week in a research position must add another on-campus job of at least 10 hours per week to be eligible for housing.
Once eligible, students must request housing/dining in the housing portal by the end of April (review the ResLife site for deadline).
See details on HR’s Summer Employment page.

In 2025, summer housing will be available from June 7-August 17.
For students starting research employment between June 9 and xx, students can access their rooms the weekend before their Monday start date and must move out within one of their employment end date.
Any student with campus housing approved to begin research prior to a June 9 work start date will need to remain on campus after final exams and be prepared to move to their summer housing assignment when it is ready.
Dining Services
Dining plans are optional for summer students. Please note that dining halls are closed between Commencement and June 15 and will open June 16 – xxdate, 2025. Please see HR’s Summer Employment site for details.
Paying for Housing and Dining Services
SRAs are responsible for all housing and dining charges and will be billed for them. See the summer employment information for rates.
Non-Middlebury students will be charged the weekly housing cost for students not receiving financial aid.
Even though employment begins on Mondays and ends on Fridays, housing charges are weekly (Sun-Sat) and may extend beyond actual start and end dates. Please note: Positions funded by college funds are not eligible for room and/or dining supplements. External grant funds may not be used to cover room and/or dining unless the grant was specifically budgeted and the request is reviewed by the Office of Grants and Sponsored Programs.
