Hello everyone! My name is Velu and I am originally from Hailey, Idaho. I intend to do a double major with Sociology and Psychology with a potential minor in linguistics. I am interested in all that there is with language learning and learning about different cultures. On campus, I am involved in many outdoor activities, and community outreach. I would say that being able to manage and explore my academic and extracurricular interests is the best thing that this campus has to offer.

Why did you choose to attend Middlebury?

I chose to attend Middlebury due to their amazing language program. I had started my college search at the end of sophomore year, looking for a college that matched my academic interests and where my talents and education could lead me to a successful career. Additionally, I am so grateful that I was able to connect with Middlebury alumni from my hometown, as it helped strengthen my decision to come here.

Favorite thing to do during J-Term?

My favorite thing to do during J-term is explore different workshops, anything from ice skating to dance workshops. I recently took a salsa and bachata class, which improved my skills and allowed me to be more confident in my dancing and myself.

What do you do to relax and have fun?

For me what I do to relax and have fun is to do outdoor activities that prioritize my health. Such things like spin classes offered here at Middlebury, go to the gym in my free time, or participate in a hike offered by FIRE.
