Michael Germana is an emeritus professor of English and a lecturer in Middlebury’s First Year Seminar Program. Before arriving at Midd, Professor Germana spent eighteen years teaching courses in American Literature and American Studies at West Virginia University. He is the author of two books, Standards of Value: Money, Race, and Literature in America (Iowa UP, 2009) and Ralph Ellison: Temporal Technologist (Oxford UP, 2017). A regular contributor to the burgeoning field of Economic Humanities, Professor Germana writes about the rhetoric of value and its strategic redeployment in African American Literature of the 19th and 20th centuries.
