Samson Akanni

Samson Akanni is a final-year Ph.D. candidate and Graduate Assistant in the Department of Theatre and Film at Bowling Green State University. His research interests include dance, ritual, gender, activism, practice-as-research, Afropop, choreography, and African/African diasporic studies. After earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Theatre Arts from University of Ibadan, he received the Erasmus scholarship, which supported his studies across Europe through the Choreomundus Programme - International Master in Dance Knowledge, Practice, and Heritage. His current research examines the interplay between spirituality and dance in the Oyotunji Yoruba African Kingdom.
