Hi! My name is Kalvin, and I am originally from Arkansas. When it came to the college application process, I wasn’t entirely sure what I was looking for in a school, but I knew I wanted a place that would challenge me and open new doors. As a first-generation student, the idea of college was both exciting and intimidating. As a sophomore, I have since realized that Middlebury is an energizing environment where I can push myself to grow.
At Middlebury, I am pursuing a joint major in Sociology and History with a minor in Education Studies. I am not sure if that path will lead me to teaching in a classroom or becoming a professor, but I do know that I want to dedicate myself to education.
Although I came to Midd not knowing what to expect, I have found it to be a place full of opportunities. I am excited to see where the next few years take me!
Favorite place in Vermont? Favorite place in town?
I can always spend a pretty penny at the tea shop in town. It is the best place to study and hang out with friends while grabbing a pot of hot tea to warm you up in the winter!
Any tips for incoming students to help them make the most out of their Middlebury experience?
Go into the experience with an open mind. Take random classes and try out clubs you are on the fence about. You are going to have so many unexpected adventures! Those adventures have been one of the best parts of my time at Midd.
Why did you choose to attend Middlebury?:
In high school, one of my teachers was a Midd alum. She spoke so highly of her experience that I knew I needed to check out the school. After researching the school, I was immediately drawn to the small class sizes, its proximity to the outdoors, and the school’s focus on the liberal arts.
