Kristina Talbert-Slagle

Kristina Talbert-Slagle is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Global Health at Middlebury College. Prior to joining the Middlebury faculty in 2026, she conducted global health research and taught interdisciplinary courses for 16 years at Yale University, where she was a faculty member in the School of Medicine as well as a Core Faculty member in the Yale Equity Research and Innovation Center. Since the end of the 2014-15 Ebola crisis in West Africa, Kristina has developed a longstanding, robust collaboration with her partners in Liberia, supporting them as they worked to strengthen Liberia’s health education systems and rebuild the country’s health workforce. Among their many collaborations, Kristina and her partners developed and launched a Center for Teaching, Learning, and Innovation at the University of Liberia College of Health Sciences, which houses the country’s only medical and pharmacy schools. Kristina is also a dedicated, award-winning teacher, having developed and taught interdisciplinary courses at Yale exploring the intersection between infectious diseases and environmental, socioeconomic, and political contexts as well as courses that examine evidence-based decision-making in global health and the geopolitical, neocolonial forces that counter and often undercut equity in international partnerships. She earned her B.A. in Russian and Eastern Studies and her B.S. in Agricultural Biotechnology from the University of Kentucky, then her Ph.D. through the Epidemiology of Microbial Disease program at Yale University. When not working, Kristina loves to spend time with her husband and three children and their big, slobbery rescue mastiff.
