Matt Longman is a graduate of Middlebury College and has had the honor of working with students at Middlebury for many years. He first came to Middlebury from New York City, and originally found living in Vermont to be an adjustment. Now, he deeply appreciates living in the Green Mountain State. As an undergrad, Matt majored in Environmental Studies and minored in Theatre. After Middlebury, Matt found a calling in the field of higher education and completed a Master’s degree at Harvard University. At Middlebury, he has taught several J-term courses, focusing on concepts of social identity and social influence.
As an assistant dean for student success, one of Matt’s primary intentions is to provide students with a space in which they feel seen, heard, and guided to some extent as they encounter the opportunities, challenges and transitions associated with navigating the college years. In addition to providing a listening ear and informed support, Matt also helps students make timely connections with other wonderful colleagues across campus.
Beyond the College, Matt’s interests include playing ice hockey, electric bass, and enjoying the great outdoors as much as possible. Matt’s beagle, Kylo, is an important member of the Center for Student Success team, and can be a part of any meeting with Matt, at the student’s request.
