Sophie Pangle

Sophie Pangle is an Assistant Professor of Political Science specializing in the history of political philosophy. Her research and teaching address the theoretical roots and critique of modern liberalism, the dialogue between ancient and modern political philosophers, and the political psychology of dignity and anger. 

Her research is published in History of Political Thought and The Political Science Reviewer. Her current book project, under contract with Harvard University Press, examines the concepts of dignity and indignation in the political philosophy of Plato and of Jean-Jacques Rousseau. 

Before arriving at Middlebury, she was a postdoctoral fellow in the Politics Department at Princeton University. She holds a Ph.D. in Government from Harvard University and a B.A. from the University of Chicago.
