For Students

Students are the core and driver of much of our climate work at Middlebury. Here are just some of the ways they are contributing - we hope you’ll join in!
SEA Programs + Paid Internship Opportunities
- Learn about what’s happening on campus, about past, current, and future projects.
- Apply for paid climate and sustainability internships:
- In Action: over the last few years, students have worked on integrating the Living Building Challenge into Middlebury’s infrastructure planning, design, and construction. This work has partnered SSL students with faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners, leading to direct implementation in new projects.
Apply For Funding and Join Funded Programs
- Take advantage of opportunities (many that are fully-funded!) including:
- In Action: with funding from the Climate Action Program, students have attended climate marches, participated in trainings, hosted community dinners, and built art installations.
Join a Student Group
- Join climate-related students groups such as SNEG (Sunday Night Environmental Group), Midd Mountain Club, Voices of Indigenous Peoples (VIP), Weybridge House, Juntos, RISE (Research & Investment in Sustainable Equity), the Midd Bike Shop, and more!
Volunteer and Use Your Voice
- Join Environmental Council (applications open each August)
- Join the Energy2028 Steering Committee
- Attend Knoll volunteer hours, and even get PE credit.
- Work/volunteer with campus-wide programs such as EcoReps, the Green Panther Program (through the SAAC Sustainability Committee for athletes), and the SGA Environmental Sustainability Committee
- Propose/host events through your groups
- Connect your interests to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and volunteer locally. This list of organizations organized by SDG is a great place to start!
- In Action: a combination of SNEG, Environmental Council, SSL, and other students continued to push for divestment over many years, while other students also worked toward charting paths to renewable energy, finally leading to the overall adoption of Energy2028 in 2019.
Attend Events
- Go to events! Sustainability & Environmental Affairs, and the Climate Action Program in particular, bring tons of great speakers and workshops to campus… make sure to keep an eye out and attend/sign up to participate!
Get Involved Academically
- Talk about Energy2028 and climate work in your classes and join the Climate Teach In every April
- Get involved in related research on and off campus
- Join your department’s Student Advisory Committee or SGA
- Join the Privilege and Poverty Academic Cluster
- Take sustainability-related courses, all across campus!
- In Action: the SGA Environmental Sustainaility Committee is currently working with the Faculty Council to integrate climate curricula across departments.
