Spend the summer making a difference for Vermont!

Why MiddWorks for Vermont?

Middlebury College is deeply vested in and committed to the future of our home state! Entering its third year, the MiddWorks for Vermont Summer Internship Program will be funded by Middlebury College Center for Careers and Internships and provide 25 student internships with a variety of organizations that advance:

  • a robust Vermont economy and skilled workforce
  • a just Vermont society
  • a healthy Vermont population
  • a “green” Vermont environment
  • equitable access to excellence in education
  • a vibrant Vermont arts and cultural scene

The Details

  • All internships are carefully curated by CCI to ensure a rich experience for both the student and the organization. The MiddWorks for Vermont program internships will be posted on our Handshake opportunities data base, with the goal of having all positions filled by April 1. There is a de range of opportunities available - see below for a list of past employers. Students should log onto Handshake and search “MiddWorks for Vermont” for details.
  • Interns will receive a $4,000 summer funding award as well as priority acceptance should they choose to apply to MiddCORE’s Summer Intern Lab, a weekly remote leadership and career-readiness program with an additional $250 funding award.
  • To help ensure the fullest Vermont experience, interns should live in Vermont for the duration of the internship and internships must be in-person or hybrid; no internship can be entirely remote. Housing is available in Middlebury and Burlington.  Find details here.
  • Students will attend a Vermont-specific “pre-departure” training session and participate in mid-summer and fall debriefs with all MiddWorks interns and their supervisors. 
  • All internships must be at least 8 weeks long and 30 hours per week for a minimum total of 240 hours.

In addition to providing place-based experiential learning at its best, MiddWorks for Vermont will promote internship and career opportunities in every sector—we hope to encourage students to remain in Vermont during summers, after graduation, and beyond.  When Middlebury fosters meaningful and deep connections to Vermont as a place to settle and to have a high quality of life while finding rewarding and purposeful work, we are also providing an ideal opportunity for students and graduates to apply their liberal arts and sciences learning in an impactful way.
