Flexible Work Options

At Middlebury, we understand the increasing demands that staff members face in their personal and work lives, and we recognize that their careers are just one of many aspects of their lives. We also recognize that the current pandemic can add further challenges to this delicate balance. Finding ways to accommodate these demands can help provide an atmosphere where we can thrive personally and professionally.

Middlebury offers a variety of flexible work arrangements. Supervisors and staff have historically worked together to find creative ways of meeting business needs while providing more flexibility than traditional work arrangements. Middlebury has now developed formal request processes to help support supervisors and employees in establishing these arrangements.

Flexible work options offer alternative approaches to getting work done through nontraditional work hours, locations, and/or job structures. They offer creative approaches for completing work while promoting balance between work and personal commitments and can result in a more positive and productive work environment.

There are several flexible work options available at Middlebury, including flextime (flexible work hours), telework (flexible work location), and an abbreviated schedule or reduction in one’s full-time equivalency (FTE). Although not all options may be available in all departments or for all positions based upon operational needs, employees and managers are encouraged to explore these pathways in an effort to help manage work schedules while continuing to meet business needs.
