Everyday Italian
Everyday Italian for Beginners is a 3-week full-immersion program for adult students that know little or no Italian.
It is designed to offer an immersive learning environment for participants to easily absorb the richness of Italian language and culture. It is not credit bearing and participation is limited to 10 students.
Curriculum
You’ll attend three hours of class daily, Monday thru Friday. All classes are taught by experienced language instructors, and students sign Middlebury’s Language Pledge® to communicate only in Italian throughout the program, resulting in the rapid acquisition of linguistic and cultural fluency. One hour daily will be dedicated to grammar, culture, and conversation respectively. Students will learn to read, write and speak about simple topics in the present, past and future, and acquire fundamental vocabulary and grammar skills. Coursework will also include songs, films, articles about various topics relating to food, art and travel in Italy.
- Greet people
- Make introductions
- Ask for information
- Order at a restaurant
- Engage in basic conversation
You’ll also have the opportunity to attend an optional diction workshop in the late afternoon. Please note that specifics regarding course materials for the 2020 summer session will not be available until spring 2020.
Cocurricular Activities
A rich variety of activities are available to all students, regardless of program. In recent years, these cocurricular activities have included films, theatre performances, concerts, opera performances, intramural soccer, cooking lessons, lectures, creative writing workshops, cultural presentations, and field trips.
Admissions
Admission to Everyday Italian is separate from admission to the Italian School 7-week immersion program, but applicants must fill out the online application as directed. Select “Italian for Adults” on the application.
