Please Read the Admission Requirements Below

General Requirements

In order to attend any of the Language Schools programs, you must be a high school graduate. In addition, because of the rigor of our programs, we strongly recommend that you have completed one year of college-level study. The Graduate Record Examination is NOT required for admission.

In any given summer, a student may enroll in courses in one Language School only, and typically only at one level of study. A student may, however, apply to more than one School. To do so, you must submit a complete application packet (including all necessary transcripts, two letters of recommendation, a 200-word essay, and any required supplemental materials) to each School. You are welcome to photocopy materials to expedite the multiple-application process.

The application fee is $65 and it must accompany your application. Please make your check payable to Middlebury College. If you wish to pay by credit card, contact the coordinator of the School to which you are applying.

Admission is for one summer and/or program abroad only. Students who wish to continue their studies must complete the reactivation procedure described below. Admission to the Language Schools is entirely separate from admission as an undergraduate to Middlebury College; both Language Schools students and Middlebury undergraduates, however, are considered "Middlebury College students."

Reactivation

If you have attended one of the Middlebury College Language Schools or C.V. Starr-Middlebury Schools Abroad in the past, or if you applied within the past two years but did not attend, you are eligible to have your original application reactivated at no charge. Please complete the online application and select the "pay later" option when prompted.

International Students

We recommend that international students apply early enough to ensure that they can obtain a student visa for their summer studies. Applications received between April 1 and May 1 from non-U.S. citizens will be processed, but please keep in mind that we cannot guarantee that you will be able to secure the necessary documents in time to obtain the F-1 student visa for entry to the United States. Applications received after May 1 from international students will not be considered for admission.

Acceptance

Upon acceptance, all students wishing to enroll must pay a $400 non-refundable enrollment deposit which will be applied to their tuition charges.

Placement

Once a student has been accepted for admission, final placement in a particular level of study will be determined by the student's performance on written and/or oral placement tests administered before the start of classes. By applying for admission, a student indicates a willingness to accept the placement deemed appropriate by the School.
