Shokry Gohar graduated from Cairo University with a B.A. in Geography. In 1992 he began teaching at the British Council in Cairo where he taught Arabic for 12 years and became Assistant to the Director of the Arabic Department. Following this time he worked as Arabic Language Instructor for private and institutional clients. In 2005 he was appointed Faculty Lecturer and Director of the Arabic Program at the Institute of Islamic Studies, McGill University. He has taught the Summer Language Program at Middlebury College three times since 2003.
