Hristina Tchobanova is a lecturer of Arabic in the Department of Arabic and Semitic Studies at St. Kliment Ohridski University in Sofia, Bulgaria. She received her M.A. in Arabic language and literature from the same university and is now working on her Ph.D. thesis, which treats Andalusi Arabic from a quantitative perspective in light of the methods of historical linguistics. She spent a year in the Department of Arabic and Semitic Studies at Complutense University in Madrid. Her interests are mainly in Modern Standard Arabic and Arabic dialects. She is co-author of the first Textbook in Modern Standard Arabic in Bulgaria. She has also worked as an editor, translator, and speaker in the Arabic Section of Radio Bulgaria and has experience as an interpreter and translator from and into Arabic. She is a member of L'Assossiassion Internationale de Dialectologie Arabe (AIDA) and the International association of the teachers of Arabic as a non-native language (founded in Damascus).
