Sergio Ferrarese received his degree (summa cum laude) in Italian Literature and Philosophy, from the University of Torino. After completing his thesis he worked as an assistant pro tempore for Professor Fubini. He is currently a lecturing fellow at Duke University, and holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Italian literature. He is currently working on two books: "Le metamorfosi del mito di Orfeo nella letteratura italiana e nel melodramma" and an intellectual biography of Piero Gobetti in English.

He has taught in the US since 1996. He has published for several Italian periodicals, written reviews for Annali d'italianistica and other scholarly journals and contributed entries for encyclopedias on various subjects. He has presented papers at conferences in both Italy and the US. His interests range from the relationship between literature and history, philology, aesthetics, political thinkers and social issues.
