Mércia Flannery is native of Recife, Pernambuco. She holds an M.A. from the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco. She received her M.S. and Ph.D. in Linguistics from Georgetown University. Her research interests are Language, Race, Ethnicity and Identity, Narrative Analysis, and Discourse Analysis. She currently teaches at the University of Pennsylvania. At the Portuguese School, she will be teaching Portuguese Level 3, a graduate class of Morphosyntax, and a module on Brazilian Music in Geographical and Social Context.
