- I was born in Moscow into a family of orientalists. Following in my parents' footsteps, I entered the Institute of Asian and African Countries and, after six years of studying Indian languages and literatures in Moscow and New Delhi, graduated with an MA in Linguistics and Translation. Right upon entering a PhD program at the Moscow Institute of Oriental Studies, I met my future husband, a Vermont native, and moved to the United States. I enrolled into an MA program in Applied Linguistics/TESOL at the University of California - Davis. After graduation, I taught English as a Second Language classes at colleges in California, Massachusetts, and finally, Vermont. My background in linguistics, experience in language teaching, native knowledge of Russian, and continuous interest in Russian literature and culture brought me to the Department of German and Russian at the University of Vermont. There I taught all levels of Russian language, Russian literature and culture courses, as well as seminars on Russian writers. I am a Master Teacher in the Dartmouth College-based Rassias Foundation® Russian program and conduct intensive Rassias Method Russian language courses throughout the United States. My academic interests include teaching methodology for Russian language and literature and Russian literature of the 20th century. I am an avid yoga student and will be leading a Russian Language Kundalini Yoga club while in Middlebury.
