Arantxa Alegre-González, from Madrid, Spain, earned her B.A. in Spanish from UNED (Universidad Española a Distancia) and her Ph.D. in Arabic Medieval Travel Literature from the Universidad Autónoma of Madrid after having already started her academic career in the United States. Her research since then has focused on both Spanish and Arabic medieval travel literature. She has taught Spanish at the Instituto Cervantes in Cairo (Egypt), and in several American universities such as Samford University (Birmingham AL), Washington & Lee University (Lexington VA), and Ohio University (Athens OH). She is currently teaching Spanish and working on developing the Arabic program for Towson University (Baltimore MD). Her professional activities publications and conferences reflect her expertise in Spanish travel literature and Arabic medieval travel literature, specifically issues related to Egypt and to the Nile in writers from that period. Other areas of her interest also include the Arabic influence in Spanish literature and Spanish literature and film.
