Joaquín Roses, from Spain, received his Ph. D. from Brown University (1991), and his licenciatura from the Universidad de Córdoba, Spain (1987), where he is now a “Profesor Titular” (since 1992). He also teaches to students of Wellesley, Smith, Trinity, Wheaton, Oberlin and Wooster Colleges in Preshco (Programa de Estudios Hispánicos en Córdoba) (since 1997). He was also a Visiting Associate Professor in the Department of Hispanic Studies at the University of Kentucky (Spring 2006). His areas of specialization are Golden Age Literature, Twentieth-century Spanish and Latin American Literature and Cinema. He is a specialist in the poetry of Góngora, and has published two books on the subject: Una poética de la oscuridad: la recepción crítica de las Soledades en el siglo XVII (1994) and Góngora: Soledades habitadas (2007). Joaquín Roses has also edited Góngora Hoy I-II-III (2002), Góngora Hoy IV-V (2004), Góngora Hoy VI (2005), Góngora Hoy VII (2006), Góngora Hoy VIII (2006) and Góngora Hoy IX (2006), collections of critical studies; and eight books of essays about twentieth century literature: 50 años de Cantico (2003), Literatura cubana del siglo XX: lo que se ganó (2003), Borges y el sur (2004), Buñuel a imagen de la letra (2004), Luis Cernuda en el contexto europeo y americano (2005), María Teresa León, compromiso y melancolía (2005), Pablo Neruda, en el corazón de España (2006) y Manuel Altolaguirre, el poeta impresor (2006). He has also authored two catalogs: García Lorca: letra y dibujo de una vida (1996) and Invocaciones: Retratos de poetas y escritores por Joaquín Vaquero Turcios (1998). His bibliography includes more than fifty articles on the literature of Spain and Spanish America. He has directed more than thirty congresses and meetings.
