José Kozer. Born in Havana, Cuba (l940) of Jewish parents who emigrated from Poland (father) and Czechoslovakia (mother), he left his native land in 1960 to live in New York until 1997, the year in which he retired from Queens College as Full Professor, where he taught Spanish and Latin American literatures for thirty-two years. His poetry has been translated to English, Portuguese, French, Italian, German, Hebrew and Greek, and has been selected widely for anthologies. There are several master and doctoral dissertations written on his work, and his poetry has been the subject in many graduate and undergraduate courses. He is the author of 49 books of poetry, 2 books of prose and numerous chapbooks. His work has been published by Fondo de Cultura Económica, Aldus, Visor, El Bardo, Letras Cubanas, Norma, and Monte Ávila. Among his latest books of poetry are Stet (English/Spanish), Trazas/Spuren (German/Spanish), Ibis Amarelo (Portuguese/Spanish), Mueca la muerte (Norma, Chile), En Feldafing las cornejas (Aldus, Mexico), and La garza sin sombras, 2nd edition (Bajo la luna, Argentina).
