The Chinese School’s Summer of 2017

Last summer was exceptionally successful for the Chinese School, with 140 students attending the master’s and undergraduate programs. That includes 26 students who were new to the language and began at the 101 level.

Farewell to an Old Friend

After 24 years with the Chinese School, Director Jianhua Bai said farewell at the end of last summer. He has been associated with the school since 1992, and he served as a lead instructor, trainer, and acting director before becoming director in 2002. Cecilia Chang, professor of Chinese at Williams College, has been named as the new director.

Language Schools Confer 100 Degrees at Commencement

One hundred students received master’s or doctoral degrees at the Language Schools Commencement this summer. Mexican novelist and investigative journalist Elena Poniatowska delivered an inspiring address.
