John R. Beyrle, the ambassador of the United States to the Russian Federation from 2008 to 2012 (and attendee of Middlebury's School of Russian in 1975), delivered the commencement address marking the end of the Middlebury Language Schools’ 98th summer session. Vice President for Language Schools Responds to Larry Summers' Article 

Michael Geisler, vice president for Language Schools, Schools Abroad, and graduate programs at Middlebury College, responded to former U.S. Treasury Secretary and Harvard University President Larry Summers' essay in the New York Times, "What You (Really) Need to Know."
