Arrival Logistics
When Can I Arrive On Campus?
- Move-In Hours: 9:00 AM–12:00 PM
- Please Note:
- No one is allowed to move in before 9 AM.
- If extenuating circumstances result in your arriving after 12:00 PM, please email orientation@middlebury.edu or call 1-802-443-3006 immediately to update us on your travel.
Once I Arrive, Where Do I Check In?
- Students must first check-in at the Welcome Center in Axinn. Please proceed directly to the parking areas in front of Axinn. If no parking is available, proceed to Lot Q to park and walk or take the shuttle to Axinn. Do not park cars along the sidewalk in front of Axinn as this will create congestion and delay our check in process.
- Once at the Welcome Center, you will receive your Welcome Packet, Student ID, and pin code for your room. You will not be able to access your housing or receive your student ID without checking in.
- International students participating in International Student and Scholar Services pre-orientation programs will arrive on Tuesday, February 4. More details can be found by visiting the ISSS website.
After Check In - Moving into Your Res Hall
- After you have checked in at our Welcome Center, proceed to the designated unloading area for your Res Hall. When temporarily parking at your residence hall, please promptly unload belongings, then immediately move your car to Lot Q for post move in day parking.
- Students and families should be prepared for the cold and dress appropriately during the move in day process. There will be a short distance from the unloading point to your building that you will need to walk to move in your belongings.
- We will have staff available with carts to assist you with transporting your belongings if you need it.
- Plan ahead about how you’re packing–small and light containers are easier to move than large and heavy ones.
- Pack in suitcases with wheels, bins, or boxes that you can move on your own.
- Label everything clearly using a bold or permanent marker with your full name, residence hall, and room number.
- To make the moving-in process easier, consider shipping items or ordering items to be delivered to campus ahead of time. You can ship items to campus prior to your arrival.

- The Unloading Zones for each residence hall will vary depending on where you will be living. Residential Life will send your housing and roommate information to you the week before you arrive. At check-in, the staff will point you to your unloading zone.
Where Do I Go After I Check In and Unloading My Belongings?
-
After your vehicle is unloaded, you’ll be directed to post move in day parking.
-
Student vehicles should be parked in Lot Q (U Permit Section); Guests can park in Q, R, S, E or T Lots.
-
After parking, you can return to your residence hall and finish unpacking and settling in. An on-campus shuttle will be available to take you back, or you can walk through campus. More information about campus parking can be found here.
Additional Arrival Information:
- Traffic and congestion are always heaviest early, and since no official orientation activities begin until after the move-in period ends, you may wish to arrive a bit later in the arrival window to reduce wait time for check in and unloading.
- Students will not be able to check in at Axinn prior to 9 AM. If you do arrive early, you are welcome to explore campus, or stop in McCullough Student Center to warm up or use the restrooms.
- Warm beverages, snacks, and restrooms will be available at our Welcome Center in Axinn. Students and families may also access Proctor Dining Hall after you have checked in and received your student ID.
