Elizabeth Hill (M.A. French ‘22) and Thomas Phifer (B.A. German ‘14, German School ‘12) are using their Middlebury language skills to expand E-learning opportunities for students at Berlitz Corporation.
Berlitz Corporation is a company that has specialized in full immersion language courses since 1878. Though courses have historically taken place in brick-and-mortar language centers all over the world, recent demand for online instruction has created new opportunities to apply the Berlitz method to autonomous learning.
Both former language teachers, Elizabeth and Thomas draw on their own immersion experiences at Middlebury Language Schools to design Berlitz Flex lessons that are both engaging and effective for adult learners around the world.
Berlitz currently offers Flex in English, German, and Spanish, with French coming soon, potentially followed by other languages.
Students and alumni may be interested in instructional design of online language learning if they have a deep love of languages, a sharp eye for editing, and an interest in creating educational materials that captivate and inspire.
