Our Work
Beyond the Page started as an initiative of The Bread Loaf School of English. The mission centered on taking the longstanding practice of integrating actors and theatre into Bread Loaf graduate courses and adapting this pedagogy for the undergraduate experience.
In 2019, Beyond the Page launched this experiment at Middlebury College. Within the first year, BtP took off. Our impact reached beyond literature courses and across the humanities and social sciences. It was clear Beyond the Page met a need at the college to find more ways to make learning embodied, immediate, experiential, personal, and collaborative.
Today, BtP supports classroom learning in over 25 different academic disciplines, leads a training fellowship for undergraduate students, and develops interdisciplinary theatre projects for both the campus and wider community.
