Weather
The Commencement ceremony is held outdoors, rain or shine.
The Middlebury, Vermont, area is experiencing unseasonably cool and rainy weather. We encourage guests to check local weather conditions before traveling and on the day of Commencement and to dress accordingly. Several livestream locations will be available for guests who wish to view the ceremony indoors.
While we hope the sun will shine during our grads’ celebration, we expect chilly conditions, possible rain showers, and saturated grounds.

Dress for the Weather
Temperature and weather conditions can vary considerably between the beginning and end of the Commencement ceremony. Please come prepared for all weather conditions (bring warm coats, rain gear, hats, sunscreen, etc.) and wear shoes appropriate for damp, grassy terrain.
A tent will be located behind the general seating area for guests who wish protection from rain or sun. For those who prefer to be indoors, a live broadcast of the ceremony is provided in the following locations.
- Wilson Hall, McCullough Student Center (located directly behind the rain tent)
- Middlebury Chapel
- Dana Auditorium, Sunderland Language Center
Severe Weather
If severe weather poses a safety risk, the ceremony will be held indoors at the Peterson Family Athletics Complex. A severe weather announcement will be communicated to seniors via email and posted on the Commencement website as soon as the decision is made.
