Participation

Undergraduates who complete their academic requirements during the winter term can participate in one of Middlebury College’s unique and most special traditions: February Celebration. Though not a formal graduation ceremony – Febs and their families are invited back to campus in May to participate in Commencement – the February Celebration is a beloved tradition recognizing the contributions of the College’s midyear graduates. 

Ceremony Day-of Instructions

  1. Arrive at Proctor at 6:30 a.m. for a special breakfast just for the Feb class.
  2. Beginning at 7:00 a.m., Febs participating in the Ski Down can begin bringing ski equipment to the buses in front of Proctor Dining Hall.
  3. At 7:50 a.m., all Febs board buses to Virtue to check in for lineup.
  4. Between 8:00 a.m. and 8:15 a.m., Febs will line up single-file and in alphabetical order in the hallway adjacent to the Squash Lobby.
  5. The ceremony procession will begin at 8:50 a.m.
  6. The Feb Celebration ceremony begins promptly at 9:00 a.m!
  7. The celebration concludes at 10:30 a.m. Febs will process out of Virtue and immediately board buses to the Snowbowl if they plan to participate in the Ski Down.
  8. The Ski Down will begin at approximately 12:30 p.m.
  9. A complimentary luncheon is offered at Proctor and Ross Dining Halls for all Febs and their guests from 1:00-3:00 p.m.

Regalia, Attire, and What to Bring

Middlebury College provides complimentary regalia (caps and gowns), which may be kept as souvenirs. You may pick up caps, gowns from the middstore (802-443-5334) January 25-29. You do not need to pre-order your cap and gown; when you go to the middstore to pick up your cap and gown, you’ll be able to choose from a selection of sizes.

If you plan to participate in the Ski Down, we suggest dressing in layers under your gown. You won’t have time to change clothing after the ceremony before boarding buses to the Snowbowl.

Be sure to bring your cap and gown, your phone (don’t miss a photo op with friends and family!), and a water bottle to the Feb Celebration ceremony.

 

Class Photo

The Class of 2026.5 Class Photo will be taken in front of Middlebury Chapel on Friday, January 30, at 10:00 a.m. Be sure to bring your caps and gowns for the photo! 

Graduate Photos

GradImages photographs each Feb as they cross the stage and receive their cane. Portraits will be available several weeks after the ceremony. Febs are encouraged to register in advance and include friends and family to receive a discount offer and notification when photos are ready.  Please contact GradImages’ customer service department at (800) 261-2576, online at www.gradimages.com, or email ecc.giservice@gradimages.net with any questions regarding their offerings.

Graduate Departure

Febs must move out of residence halls no later than noon on Sunday, January 31. This deadline is enforced to ensure rooms are can be prepared for the new Feb class arriving early the following week.
