Geography Department Software Support

  • ESRI - Online support for ESRI software, including ArcMap and ArcCatalog.
  • Adobe - Online support for Adobe software, including Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Flash.

Connecting to your GIS Home Folder (W:)

To connect to your GIS Home Folder (W:) you must be on campus and connected to the network with a physical (ethernet) or secure wireless (MiddleburyCollege) connection.

Windows

  • Right-click the My Computer icon on your desktop and select Map Network Drive. In the Drive drop-down list select the desired drive letter. (In the Geography Department we map personal directories to the W drive.)
  • In the Folder field type: \gis.middlebury.edu\gis\ggstudents\yourusername
  • If you are connecting from a personal computer, click Different User Name. Enter midd\yourusername in the User Name field to direct your computer to the midd domain. Enter your password as you normally would. Click OK to exit the Connect As dialog box, and Finish to connect to the drive.

  • (If you are off campus with an internet connected Windows computer you can connect to the network using the Junos Pulse VPN (virtual private network).

Mac

  • Open the Finder by clicking on the desktop. From the Go menu select Connect to Server. In the Server Address field enter: cifs://gis.middlebury.edu/gis/ggstudents/yourusername
  • Click Connect, and enter your user name and password as directed. A new network volume will appear on your desktop.

Connecting to Splinter Special Projects (gg_projects)

To connect to a special projects folder on Splinter, you must be on campus and connected to the network with a physical (ethernet) or secure wireless (MiddleburyCollege) connection. Off-campus connections are possible using a VPN client.

Windows

  • Right-click the My Computer icon on your desktop and select Map Network Drive. In the Drive drop-down list select the desired drive letter. (In the Geography Department we map personal directories to the W drive.) In the Folder field type: \splinter\gg_projects\projectname
  • If you are connecting from a personal computer, click Different User Name. Enter midd\yourusername in the User Name field to direct your computer to the midd domain. Enter your password as you normally would. Click OK to exit the Connect As dialog box, and Finish to connect to the drive.
