Assistant Professor of Music
The Department of Music invites applicants for a full-time tenure-track position in music theory beginning fall 2026. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in music theory and a commitment to undergraduate liberal arts pedagogy. We seek an experienced and innovative instructor with ability to teach courses that integrate theory with history, ethnomusicology, analysis, creative work, and performance across our curriculum. Responsibilities include teaching music theory and electives according to specialization. Candidates should have a doctorate in music theory or a related field, provide evidence of excellent teaching experience, demonstrate artistic and/or scholarly achievement or potential, and be committed to teaching in a liberal arts environment.
As part of a full teaching load, the candidate will also occasionally contribute to Middlebury’s First Year Seminar Program and Winter Term course offerings. All faculty at Middlebury are also expected to contribute to service to the College including, but not limited to, committee membership and serving as director or chair of a program or department when asked.
