After over a decade teaching Chinese, Spanish, and English in K-12 schools, Mairead Harris joined the Chinese Department in fall 2022 to teach first-year through third-year Chinese language classes. With an M.Ed from the University of Vermont, service on the Chinese Language Teachers Association Board of Directors, and experience training language teachers, she is dedicated to helping students reach their goals in language proficiency and intercultural competency.

At the Middlebury Language Schools, Mairead serves as the Associate Director for the Chinese School, a role in which she implements program improvements, ensures smooth operations, and teaches graduate level coursework for the MA in Chinese. Mairead taught first-year Chinese at Chinese School from 2012 to 2018 before moving into an administrative role. In addition, Mairead works with graduate students across languages as a mentor for current and aspiring K-12 language teachers to navigate the field of public education.

Mairead’s personal research interests include education’s role in society, the intersection of gender and education, diasporic literary practices, and language & cultural preservation.
