Remote Learners Gathering in Shanghai, China
On January 8th Remote Learners from 8 cities gathered in Shanghai, China to catch up and exchange their experience of studying remotely at Middlebury.
“In total, we welcomed 27 students that ranged from first-year students to senior graduates as well as some newly-admitted class of 2025s and transfer students, coming from over eight different cities in China. Many students expressed their excitement of being able to meet with old friends and regarded this experience as unforgettable. It is precious to have such a gathering at this point. We are grateful about how Middlebury has cared for its remote learners.”

“It’s a great pleasure that remote learners from all across China gathered together in Shanghai on a cold winter morning. After a brief self-introduction, we had lunch together, socialized, and exchanged gifts. The upperclassmen shared their experiences in Middlebury and answered the questions of the freshmen about life on campus. The activity made me feel more connected with my peers. Meeting friends who I used to see online was so exciting…Meeting them makes me feel more engaged in the big family – I’m impressed by how Middlebury cares about us remote learners through organizing this event. Also, I’m more connected to Middlebury through listening to the stories of the upperclassmen. As a freshman who has never come to campus, I now have a clearer picture of campus life. All in all, meeting my new friends in person gives me hope that I’m not going through the hard times alone, and I’m already envisioning studying with them together on campus in the near future.”
