Joyce Fernandes

Joyce Fernandes is the Associate Professor and Director of the Middlebury School in Brazil. She holds a Ph.D. in Portuguese from Brown University, where her research focused on contemporary literature by African women writing in Portuguese, with an emphasis on Black feminist, decolonial, and transnational approaches. She has taught Portuguese language, literature, and culture at the university level and is committed to creating inclusive, student-centered learning environments. Her academic interests include Lusophone African literatures, gender studies, translation, and intercultural education.
